  • I asked him to bring change with my coffee. I got this? Not what I had in mind, but very sweet nonetheless. . And on that note: I am quitting sugar (again). I did it properly about 4 years ago and was super surprised at how much better I felt (and I didn't even think I could FEEL better) All the little fixes for a sugar crush really adds up and makes me feel uber crap. Life is easy with coffee shops and their treats all around - bread, croissants, all the hidden refined naughties. So I am on it properly again just to test if I can manage the slumps better.   • STILL HIDING. January is my free pass, my timeout after the holidays and all the socialising. It is also trial month for the year - no big commitments, no major goal setting. Just time out. But not in the way where you will see me lazily zipping coffee all day, sleeping in, or simply sitting while staring at the ocean (although that has happened) In TIME OUT I mean really just stepping back from all the FUN stuff like hobbies, goals and adventures, but simply tackling all the yuckie jobs for the year - closing and downscaling bank accounts that serve no purpose other than to take enormous amounts of fees, revisiting what money goes where, looking into new investments, reviewing where I can cut costs and expenses so I can save more, revisiting medical aid goodies and doing a TON of admin 👀. It is hard work asking questions, reading up and making lots of phone calls, but I kinda like it. But schuuuu, don't tell anyone. There is something really liberating in taking charge of the shitty adulting stuff we all need to do. Wondering if anyone else has this habit of doing major ADMIN at the beginning of the year? I'm sure I am not alone. . PS. I wanted to add my location as Adulting World, but only got the option of 'Adult World' .   • If there is one thing that I have learnt from moving into a smaller environment is that EVERYTHING in our space need to have more than one function - there is just no space to have things for if and maybe. But it is tough sometimes. We had a pair of whiskey glasses, see. And I really liked the feel of the thin glass on my lips and I am convinced the whiskey tasted differently in it too. We would watch the sunsets and enjoy a drink on the deck. It is the small things in life, you know. BUT I was so worried it will break and we will have shards everywhere. They also took up space, especially as we did not use it for anything other than whiskey, wine of the odd G&T. So sometime in December we celebrated the final drink from them and let them go. I was a little sad, as often happened during our decluttering and selling up, but I knew it was the right thing to do. I know it might be something super small and insignificant to you, but if you live in a small house, these things make all the difference. Small little luxuries go a long way. But - a few days after we let go of said glasses we were given thermal cups from the friendly folk at @quenchofficial - they did not know the whole goblet glass thing, they just wanted us to try their thermal mugs. For one - I absolutely LOVE my cup! We use them MULTIPLE times a day - for morning coffee, mid day tea, hey, I even boiled eggs in mine the other day, and off course, the sunset drink. I have waited almost a month before posting anything about this. I wanted to give them a good go. Tried and test, they truly are keepers. And they make me happy.   • The best thing about living in a small house is less temptation to buy pretty things you will end up only storing or using a quarter of the time. As much as I love decor and design, the last 2 years have freed me from shopping without purpose, adding things to my space that are perhaps functional but not really, really really needed. Having said that I have turned a pro at window shopping - pretty linen, beautiful art and design still inspire me. But only for the eyes. So needless to say, the visit to The Old house shop in Plett was a colourful feast.
